The photo above was taken before cancer diagnosis (2015).
During cancer treatment, I used more makeup to fill in my lost brows and lashes. Scarves kept my sparse scalp warm!
In 2018, I went into hospice care, but am still painting.

Article in 2018 Summer issue about my experiences in hospice.
For nearly two decades, I lived aboard and seasonally traveled to different ports. It's not an easy or common lifestyle, but it suited me. My boat, s/v Angel, is only 31-feet in length so I didn't need crew to sail her. I'd set her up for solo-sailing, so it worked out wonderfully.
Formal education in the mechanical engineering field provided the foundation for enabling me to learn about repairing and customizing Angel.
Though I enjoyed singlehanding, that didn't by any means make me anti-social and I preferred to travel in the company of other vessels.
I wrote a book about these sailing adventures with my best friend captain Bill, who singlehanded his sailing ketch, Defiant.
To earn a living I worked as a marine mechanic.
